The church of Santa Maria Regina degli Apostoli alla Montagnola, run by the Società San Paolo (Pauline Society), is located in Rome's Ostiense district, in Via Antonino Pio. The church, built between 1945 and 1954, is the shrine founded by Fr James Alberione and the mother-house of the Pauline Institute; on 26 October 1976 it was erected as a parish by decree of the Cardinal Vicar Ugo Poletti Pastorali munere. The church was designed by architect Leone Favini, inspired by Roman Baroque architecture. Inside, the church contains the tombs of Blessed Father Giacomo Alberione, Thecla Merlo (the great mother of the Pious Society Daughters of St Paul), and Blessed Giuseppe Timoteo Giaccardo (tireless animator of the Pious Disciples of the Divine Master).Since 1965 it has been the seat of the Regina Apostolorum cardinal title. Since April 1984 it has the dignity of minor basilica.
