The show at the Palladium Theater Solo Goldberg Variations represents the crowning achievement of Virgilio Sieni's choreographic art. Sieni himself has in fact defined it as the manifesto of his more than thirty-year research journey. In fact, the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed live by Andrea Rebaudengo, are like an immaterial architecture at the centre of which, together with the experimentation of the body and gesture, we find the multiple languages of dance, which transcends the barriers of form and conventional codes. The show is divided into 32 scenes: the two arias, the initial and final one and the thirty Bach variations. Each variation is associated with a painting by an Italian artist from 1300 to 1600: among these the names of Masaccio, Cimabue, Titian, Caravaggio and Piero della Francesca stand out.
Through dance, the history of Italian art is therefore retraced, while the dancer's body appropriates the images and iconography of the past, becoming the limit through which to reflect on the future.
Virgilio Sieni is an Italian dancer and choreographer who trained in artistic disciplines and architecture, dedicating himself in parallel to research on the languages of the body and dance. He is one of the founders of the Parco Butterfly Company and in 1992, he founded the Virgilio Sieni Company, establishing himself as one of the protagonists of the international contemporary scene. Winner of the UBU prize three times (in 2000, 2003 and 2011), in 2011 he obtained the Lo Straniero prize and in 2013 he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et de Lettres by the French Minister of Culture.
