Valadier. Splendore nella Roma del Settecento

A great exhibition dedicated to Luigi Valadier, one of the artists who contributed to change the artistic taste in the second half of the 18th century Rome, opens to the public in the elegant setting of the Borghese Gallery. 

A trusted goldsmith by several popes, Valadier has developed over the years an unequalled technical skill which, combined with an innovative aesthetic for the time, allows him to create both large, monumental bronzes as well as furnishings, all extraordinary Baroque and Neoclassical style works.

The exposition shows how Valadier and his art became a key figure in the artistic and architectural renewal of Villa Borghese, wanted by Prince Camillo and then by Marcantonio Borghese, the most generous among Roman patrons. For the latter, Valadier designs fireplaces, composes entire rooms and creates impressive tablewares, leaving a lasting impression of his style in the Palace.
Furthermore, the exhibition highlights the relationship between Valadier and the Borghese princes, with all its different implications, bringing together many objects and furnishings. A relevant number of drawings are also exhibited, balancing the loss of some of the items.
