Villa Lazzaroni

Villa Lazzaroni@Redazione Turismo Roma

This villa dates from the late 19th century and was built by the Lazzaroni family on the site of a former vineyard. The main building is a conversion of an earlier farmhouse, to which several rooms were added to serve as reception halls. The garden combines 18th-century perspectives with undulating, landscape-style features, where a rich botanical selection blends with fountains and rustic flowerbeds.

The original complex was divided into two parts: one half of the garden is used as a public park, whilst the other half, including the main building, is owned by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary. Indeed, after 1960, the overall harmony of the complex was partly compromised by the construction of a school building and a church serving the religious institute.

In 1979, the Municipality of Rome acquired the entire area, renovated the main building to house the offices of the 9th Municipal District and demolished the dividing wall.
