The Metro C Colosseo - Fori Imperiali station nominated for the 2026 Prix Versailles

from 4 September 2026 to 30 September 2026

A stunning museum-station in the heart of the ancient city. Opened in December 2025, the Colosseo - Fori Imperiali station on Metro Line C is now officially a nominee for the 2026 Prix Versailles, the prestigious global architecture and design award that has been presented annually at UNESCO headquarters in Paris since 2015.

Designed by the studio Marzullo, the station houses an exhibition itinerary that traces the 2,000 years of history unearthed during the excavations required for the project’s construction, from wells dating back to the Archaic period to the settlement on the slopes of the Velia. The museum display is curated by the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the Department of Architecture and Design at Sapienza University. The functionality of the infrastructure coexists with the archaeological narrative, transforming the metro journey into a cultural experience.

In the 2026 Prix Versailles, the station is competing in the “Passenger Stations” category for inclusion in the 2026 World’s Most Beautiful Stations List, which features the world’s most beautiful stations opened between 1 January 2025 and 30 June 2026. For this list, the award’s Selection Committee selects a maximum of eight stations worldwide. An international jury then awards three prizes from among the stations on the list: the Prix Versailles, the Special Prize for Interiors and the Special Prize for Exteriors. For 2026, the list will be published on 28 September; the global awards will be announced on 10 December in Paris.
