Rome is once again set to take centre stage in international show jumping. From 9 to 11 October, the Military Racecourse “Pietro Giannattasio” in Tor di Quinto will host the Longines Global Champions Tour, the prestigious show-jumping circuit often described as the “Formula 1 of equestrian sport”.
This stop is particularly special thanks to its historic setting: Tor di Quinto is considered the birthplace of modern show jumping and is home to the 8th Regiment “Lancieri di Montebello”. For three days, history, sport and entertainment will come together in a free event open to the public, featuring equestrian shows, historical re-enactments, cultural initiatives and activities for all ages.
More than 100 riders, 200 horses and representatives from 35 nations will take to the arena, competing across 16 classes for a total prize fund of €700,000.
The field includes some of the biggest names in world show jumping. Among the six riders currently ranked in the LGCT top ten are Belgian Abdel Said, the circuit’s current world number one, defending champion Gilles Thomas, Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten, British star Scott Brash and French rider Simon Delestre. Among the leading female riders, Edwina Tops-Alexander and Katrin Eckermann will also be in action.
At Tor di Quinto, riders will be fighting for valuable points in both the Longines Global Champions Tour and the Global Champions League, with the season heading into its decisive final stages in Cairo and Rabat before culminating in the Super Playoffs in Riyadh.
Programme subject to change.
