Icone della Danza

Following the success of its Paris debut, Icone della Danza comes to Rome for a special evening celebrating the very best of international dance. The prestigious gala, conceived and artistically directed by Eleonora Abbagnato, brings some of the world’s most acclaimed performers to the stage of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, in a celebration of ballet in all its many forms.

A journey through passion, elegance and virtuosity, the programme unfolds through a succession of pas de deux, solos and celebrated works spanning the classical repertoire and contemporary dance. Different styles and artistic sensibilities come together through choreography by some of the great masters of the art form, including Roland Petit, George Balanchine, Frederick Ashton, John Neumeier, Christopher Wheeldon, Angelin Preljocaj, Marco Goecke, Leonid Lavrovsky and Jean-Christophe Maillot.

Adding to the evening’s appeal is an exceptional line-up of international talent. Alongside Eleonora Abbagnato, the cast features Timofej Andrijashenko, Victor Caixeta, Giacomo Castellana, Matthew Golding, Lucia Lacarra, Nicoletta Manni, Maia Makhateli, Paul Marque, Sae Eun Park, Iana Salenko, Daniil Simkin, Dmitri Smilevski and Friedemann Vogel.

Coming from leading international companies and theatres, each artist brings their own personality and artistic voice, turning every performance into a meeting point between technique and emotion. Because dance, before it is about perfection and discipline, is a way of telling stories, feelings and passions through the body.

With Icone della Danza, Eleonora Abbagnato creates an evening that embraces the great traditions of ballet while looking firmly towards the present. A tribute to its icons, but also to dance today – vibrant, international and still capable of moving audiences through the extraordinary power of movement and music.
