Two days of great sport to remember the “Lady of Volleybal” with a memorial named after her. The first edition of the Torneo di Roma Capitale is organized by the Rome Territorial Committee of the FIPAV - Italian Volleyball Federation, in collaboration with Roma Capitale and with the support of the Lazio Regional Committee. It is a tribute to Simonetta Avalle, the first woman to coach in Serie A1, who passed away in January this year after a long career dedicated to sport and teaching, which began in the late 1960s in the Roman suburb of Tor Sapienza.
An icon of Italian volleyball and an unforgettable coach, Simonetta Avalle is being celebrated at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Viale Tiziano with a four-team tournament ahead of the imminent start of the championships, an unmissable event given the quality of the teams taking part. Four Serie A teams will take to the court: Il Bisonte Firenze and Bartoccini MC - Restauri Perugia, registered in the Serie A1 championship, and Akademia Sant’Anna Messina, an A2 team. The tournament line-up is completed by the hosts, SMI Roma Volley.
The program may be subject to change.
