Officially started with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on 24 December 2024, the Jubilee 2025 is the 27th ordinary universal jubilee in the history of the Church and the second jubilee inaugurated by Pope Francis after the extraordinary one in 2015.
The entire jubilee period is characterized by a rich calendar of religious, cultural and social events. Aside from celebrations and rituals addressed to all the faithful, the Holy Year’s program includes several “jubilees” dedicated to different categories of people, identified according to specific professions or their role within the family, the Church and society. Each one includes moments of dialogue and spirituality, with a concluding mass celebrated by the pope or a delegate.
The days from 24 to 26 October are aimed in particular at all those who are part of a synodal team or a participatory body (presbyteral council, pastoral council, finance council, etc.) at the diocesan/eparchial, national, and/or Church grouping level (e.g., the Council of European Episcopal Conferences, the Latin American Episcopal Council, and the Federation of Asian Episcopal Conferences). The program is organized by the General Secretariat for the Synod of Bishops and will include moments of formation and exchange among participants and liturgical moments, such as the meeting with Pope Leo XIV in the Paul VI Hall on Friday 24 October, and the pilgrimage and passage through the Holy Door on Saturday 25 October. The meeting will conclude on 26 October with the celebration of Sunday Mass presided over by the Pope in St. Peter’s Basilica.
