It was built in the late 1980s to a design by architect Eugenio Abruzzini. Opened to the public in 1991, it was solemnly consecrated by Pope John Paul II during his visit on 21 February 1993. It is dedicated to the Benevento doctor saint Giuseppe Moscati who lived between 1880 and 1927.
The church is a parish seat, established by Cardinal Vicar Ugo Poletti on 1 September 1988 with the decree A tutti è nota.
