More sustainable, accessible and welcoming: the future of the Grande MAXXI

from 22 February 2022 to 30 June 2022

Sustainability, innovation and inclusion are the three keywords describing the next future of MAXXI. Ten years after its foundation, the museum launches an extension and transformation plan with the Grande MAXXI project: a series of integrated interventions, to be completed by 2026, which provide for the revamping of existing spaces in a sustainable and green way, with an energy and technological upgrade and the removal of physical and sensory barriers, but also a new two-storey building with a roof garden (the MAXXI Hub) and a green corridor with urban gardens and site-specific works by artists and landscape architects (the MAXXI Green).

The new building of the Maxxi Hub will rise in the area overlooking Via Masaccio and will add various activities within it: a research center for art and architecture and a center of excellence for the restoration of contemporary art, classrooms for specialized training and deposits. An international competition has been launched for the construction of the Hub and the Green space, open until 13 May. The winner will be chosen in June but the first five projects will still have the opportunity to be exhibited at MAXXI. For more information, visit the official website.
