Galleria Borghese; more tickets and a new entry mode

Galleria Borghese
from 20 October 2021 to 31 December 2021

The Borghese Gallery increases by 20% the number of tickets available and inaugurates a new entry method after a period of studies, surveys, and experimentation on crowds' behaviour.

The new study brings several advantages such as lines reduction at the ticket office and the museum entrance and all related services - bookshop and wardrobe - and allows to improve the level of conservation of the works.

With this new method, visitors can access every hour, and no longer every two, in a continuous flow that facilitates the smoothness of the visit and makes the experience exciting. The visit to this surprising exhibition space deserves time, concentration, and wonder, which was not easy because of the obligatory shifts.

Conducted in collaboration with the Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo “Mauro Picone” of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, the experiment began through a system of Bluetooth receivers located in all the rooms of both floors of the Museum, able to receive the beacon transmitter signal distributed to visitors. The data collected allowed to build a simulator able to reproduce the movements of visitors, the times of stay in the halls, and the most followed paths, to verify the visit times and identify, through an algorithm, the optimal values of all parameters to maximize the number of daily visitors, but avoiding excessive crowding in each room and closing every two hours of shifts as was the case until now, in compliance with safety measures.

In addition, eliminating the thermo-hygrometric fluctuations due to the closing and opening of the entrance shifts allows minimizing the variations, albeit slight, the microclimatic structure of the museum rooms, already placed under constant control and stabilized, thus contributing to better conservation of works and halls.

Finally, the new entry mode, decreasing the incoming queues, contributes substantially to the fight against the resale phenomenon of tickets at increased prices due to the "skip-tail" service.

We remind you that the visit to the Borghese Gallery has a duration of 2 hours, and it is mandatory to book on the website www.galleriaborghese.beniculturali.it or call 06 32810 from Monday to Friday from 9.30 to 18.
