Fiumicino airport is the first in the world in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic: Skytrax, the international rating organization for airlines and airports worldwide, awarded the highest score of 5 stars to “Leonardo da Vinci” for the measures and protocols it has implemented. The new recognition is added to Rina’s Biosafety Trust Certification and ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation and testifies to the work done by ADR, the airport management company, to operate in conditions of maximum safety, improving on the already high standards recorded in 2019.
The assessment was based on the cleaning of all surfaces within the terminals. The following protocols were particularly appreciated: the automatic “UV Clean Touch” sanitization of escalators and lifts, and body temperature monitoring, which takes place in less than 2 seconds thanks to the installation of around 100 latest generation thermal scanners. Finally, Skytrax has endorsed the airport for its effective communication to passengers, through the installation of a large number of totems and messages on digital monitors, facilitating all boarding procedures. In this way, all boarding procedures have been optimized and they take place on average quickly, without delays or problems.
