“Unexpected Itineraries of Rome”, Parco dei Martiri di Forte Bravetta Itinerary launched on 4 June

from 29 May 2025 to 31 December 2025

On Wednesday, 4 June at 11 a.m., meet along the Viale Parco dei Martiri di Forte Bravetta for a walk to the entrance of the Fortress, where the Parco dei Martiri di Forte Bravetta Itinerary will be inaugurated, a new stage of the “Unexpected Itineraries of Rome” project created to enhance and promote places, archaeological-historical sites and monuments that are not part of traditional tourist routes.

The itinerary, which is easy to walk, is about 1 kilometre long and can be easily reached by public transport (ATAC bus lines 98 - 786 - 889).

The Parco dei Martiri di Forte Bravetta is included in the larger area of the Riserva naturale della Valle dei Casali and the route inside it winds in a loop around the fortress and its appurtenances, skirting the old defensive moat.

The Parco dei Martiri di Forte Bravetta itinerary is all to experience and discover; in its places, memory intertwines with nature, offering moments of reflection far from the chaos of the city.

There are also numerous testimonies along the route:

  • The historical ones span the last two centuries of the city (from the construction of the defensive walls of Rome in the 19th century, to the wartime period of the Second World War) with particular reference to the events linked to the city's anti-fascist resistance. These include the 19th-century Fortress, which during the Second World War years was used as a place to execute death sentences during the German military occupation of the city (1943-1944), but which eventually became one of the symbolic sites of the Roman resistance and the values of the defence of freedom.
  • The botanical ones are the secular spectators of a substantial tree heritage that, in the middle of the city centre, enriches the daily life of the citizens. Among the most important essences are the Wild Lime, the Robinia, the Olive, the Apricot, the Medlar of Japan, the Almond, and the Downy Oak.
