An entire month to spend in Rome, in an artist’s residence, to develop a photographic project and immortalize the city that made the history of civilization, its most representative monuments, and its hidden corners.
It is the coveted prize won by the Colombian photographer Natalia Ortiz at the 13th edition of the PHOTO IILA Award, the contest dedicated to the best shots of under 35 Latin American photographers, with the project Huele a Lluvia (2019).
V.A.S.! Vida, Agua, Salud, Salute e Benessere was the theme that inspired the photographers in the competition, the number 3 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
Next to those by Natalia Ortiz, you can see the photos of all the finalists: Tatiana Aristizábal (Colombia), honorable mention with the project El caballero del Páramo (2022), Laura Voskian (Argentina), author de En el memento exacto, o muy cerca de lo que se indica como final (2018-2022), Tamara Zentner (Argentina), with Los diarios del cuerpo (2021), Jairo Bernal (Colombia), author of the project Sobreviviendo (2022) and Dina Colectivo - Fabiola Cedillo, Alessandro Bo, Fernanda Garcia (Ecuador), authors of Sobre el agua. A history of elemental resistance (2021).
Also on display at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere is Santiago Carmona (Colombia), winner of the last edition, who created Repubblica Bananera in Rome (2021), the work he presented this year for the first time following his residency.
PHOTO IILA is one of the cultural cooperation projects created to encourage and promote knowledge of emerging Latin American photography and opportunities for international collaboration.
PHOTO IILA - IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Award is made in collaboration with the Embassies of IILA member countries: Argentina, Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
