On September 13th, the 5th edition of Vendemmiata Romana 2026 (Roman Grape Harvest 2026) returns to the Botanical Garden, the annual event that links the valorization of viticultural biodiversity to the ancient folk tradition of the grape harvest. This event is open to residents and tourists and is designed for audiences of all ages.
The day features a rich program of events unfolding along the paths of the Botanical Garden and the Vigneto Italia: educational workshops, themed guided tours, musical and choreographic performances inspired by rural traditions, tastings, and activities for families and children. The highlight is undoubtedly the symbolic harvest at the Vigneto Italia (Italy Vineyard), when the first bunches of grapes are picked in the presence of all participants, a gesture that renews an ancient agricultural ritual that characterizes a fundamental part of our country's history.
Among the most important events is a tasting of Somma Sapienza wines, made from grapes from all the vineyards of Vigneto Italia, demonstrating the direct link between field research and the resulting winemaking results, together with street food tastings.
The event is therefore a great popular celebration featuring music, songs, and folk songs, pizzica and salterello - ancient dances from the folk tradition of Central Italy - offering the opportunity to spend a day outdoors, reviving an ancient rural ritual on the slopes of the Janiculum Hill.
The €12 admission ticket includes access to all the day's activities. Admission is free for children 11 and under.
