The Maestro Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia for the concert Theatre of Voices including the Symphony by Luciano Berio, the Symphony of Psalms and The Firebird suite n.2 by Igor Stravinsky at the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
Luciano Berio's Symphony, composed between 1968 and 1969 on the occasion of the 125th year of the foundation of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, is a musically innovative work, where the voices perform, whisper, shout, speak and sing fragments of text taken from sources such as Le cru et le cruit by Claude Lévi-Strauss, The Unnamable by Samuel Beckett or from indications by Gustav Mahler present on his scores and other writings.
Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms (Symphonie de Psaumes) is a musical composition for choir and orchestra from 1930, considered the most famous religious work and is one of the masterpieces of the composer's neoclassical period; whileThe Firebird (L'Oiseau de feu) suite n.2 is taken from the famous 1910 ballet. Inspired by a Russian fairy tale, the story sees the clash between two antithetical elements: an immortal magician named Kašèj, symbol of evil and the Firebird, which represents the strength of good.
