The exhibition at the Vatican Museums allows you to admire the precious reliquary of San Galgano up close, a true masterpiece of Sienese goldsmithing of the fourteenth century, object for more than six months of a delicate restoration operation carried out in the laboratories of the same Museums after the discovery of the famous artifact stolen in 1989, from the Museum of the seminary of Montarioso in Monteriggioni.
The restoration made it possible to restore to the reliquary - made of gilded copper, silver and translucent enamels - the artistic beauty of the sacred object, restored from the damage caused by theft and by the poor conservation conditions of the last 32 years.
A rich didactic and iconographic apparatus supports the visitor in the historical-artistic understanding of the work originally from the abbey of San Galgano, and guides him in reading the miniature scenes from the life of the Saint and his symbolic sword.
