From 9 to 14 June, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream, George Balanchine’s evocative two-act ballet, for the first time on stage at the Teatro Costanzi in a new production by the Rome Opera House.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s famous play, the American choreographer’s creation, conceived in 1962 for the New York City Ballet, combines storytelling and pantomime in a fairy-tale show, in which Puck, the mischievous and irreverent sprite, intertwines and disrupts the characters’ romantic stories in an enchanted atmosphere.
On stage, with Sandra Jennings and Darla Hoover as assistant choreographers, the Étoiles, Principal Dancers, Soloists and Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, with the participation of the students of the Dance School, bring to life a refined performance set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, played by the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Karen Durgaryan, with sets and costumes by Gianluca Falaschi, which recall a poetic and evocative world.
