The Gagosian Gallery hosts August, the first Italian exhibition of the German artist, who presents a series of new large-scale paintings, drawings and works on paper dedicated to time and its inconstant evolutions.
Fugacity, memory and narrative characterise the exhibition path, displaying works with different textures and, frequently, dissonances of shapes and nuances, created by thick and repeated brushstrokes that merge with sharp colour contrasts.
The artist of the 'psychological landscapes' uses painting energetically, in an increasingly abstract way, giving life to artwork with various poetic and artistic references - including Ovid's Metamorphoses and Titian's interpretation of the encounter between Artemis and Actaeon - and with a powerful visual impact that, in a game of probabilities and associations, deal with the idea of perpetual hope and beauty, fragility, sensuality, strength.
