The traditional pre-Christmas event for running enthusiasts: organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Bancari Romani and now in its 24th year, the Roma Urbs Mundi (or RUM) was established in 1999 as a classic half marathon, starting from Via dei Cerchi and finishing at the Circus Maximus. Over time, the competition has changed its distance several times: in 2017, it moved to a certified distance of 15 kilometers and, since last year, to 10.050 kilometers.
Included in the FIDAL Regional Calendar, the road race is open to competitive and non-competitive athletes and, since last year, has taken place on a super-fast course in the modern heart of Rome, among the monumental and austere architecture of the EUR district, starting and finishing in Piazzale dell’Industria. The wide avenues that characterize the district and the long straight stretches make the route fast and efficient, while still maintaining a moderate level of technical difficulty due to the uneven elevation of the area.
The competitive race is open to FIDAL-registered athletes (born in 2007 or earlier) and Italian and foreign citizens (born in 2005 or earlier) who have a personal RunCard and a competitive medical certificate. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older on 14 December 2025 may participate in the non-competitive race, without the need for a competitive medical certificate. Hand-pushed wheelchairs are allowed at the event; bicycles or other means of transport are not allowed. The maximum time to complete the competitive race and the non-competitive event is one hour and 30 minutes (10 minutes per kilometer).
