Rome celebrates the beginning of the new year with a grand celebration dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly (1946-2026), the central theme of ROMA CAPODARTE 2026, to reconnect with the fundamental values and principles that inspired our Constitution and the Founding Mothers and Fathers.
The initiative, promoted by Rome Capital, Rome's Department of Culture and the Coordination of Initiatives Related to Holocaust Remembrance Day, and in collaboration with the Department of Productive Activities, Equal Opportunities, and Investment Attraction, will once again enliven the city on January 1st with a major cultural event featuring over 100 events, almost all free to attend, in all neighborhoods, including concerts, shows, screenings, meetings, exhibitions, guided tours, and activities for children.
This fifth edition therefore aims to pay homage to the journey of freedom that, born from the struggle for liberation from Nazi-Fascism, laid the foundation for our democracy. This intense civic and artistic reflection retraces the stages of this journey, beginning in 1946, the pivotal date that inaugurated the Assembly's work and established women's right to vote for the first time in national history. To underscore the value of this legacy, 10,000 copies of the Italian Constitution will be distributed free of charge throughout the day during events held in all 15 of the city's Municipalities. The publication features an introduction by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and Councilor Massimiliano Smeriglio, and a further preface by constitutional scholar Cesare Pinelli.
