The MiXmonk trio, formed in 2017 on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Thelonious Monk, is made up of Robin Verheyen and pianist Bram De Looze - already a long-time duo - to which was added the master drummer Joey Baron. In order not to get too close to the standard format of the Monk quartet, it was decided to do without the bass player.
The group, which was originally born for a single concert, was so successful that they immediately went on a short tour afterwards. After the first album, some important festivals and other tours, Mixmonk have become a real band, with more interaction between the different musicians, both on a rhythmic and melodic level.
Robin Verheyen and Bram De Looze, who are two of the most interesting musicians of the contemporary Belgian jazz scene, thanks to the meeting with the legendary drummer Joey Baron, in the concert at the Casa del Jazz are thus able to produce an inspired homage to the music of Thelonious Monk, even without double bass, creating something absolutely new and extraordinary.
