Marco Tamburro. Caravaggio forever

Marco Tamburro, La tavola del Cardinale, 2025-2026, Da Caravaggio, “Canestra di frutta”, 1597-1599 ca., Collezione privata

Palazzo Bonaparte presents Marco Tamburro: Caravaggio Forever, a new exhibition bringing together more than forty previously unseen works by the Perugia-born artist, inspired by the genius of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Far more than a tribute to the great 17th-century master, the exhibition creates a dialogue between classical and contemporary painting, united by a shared desire to reveal the truth of the human condition and explore how Caravaggio's extraordinary legacy continues to inspire contemporary art.

Curated by Giulia Silvia Ghia, the exhibition is built around a question that is as simple as it is relevant: what does it mean today to look at the world with the same courage that enabled Caravaggio to revolutionise the history of art? Marco Tamburro's answer lies not in reproducing Caravaggio's paintings, but in adopting an intense and deeply human perspective capable of capturing the contradictions of the modern world.

Just as Caravaggio placed ordinary men and women at the heart of his paintings, Tamburro focuses his artistic research on the fragility, anxieties, relationships and hopes of contemporary humanity. Characterised by powerful contrasts of light and shadow, his works invite visitors to see reality through fresh eyes.

Within this journey, Rome becomes the natural meeting point between the two artists: the city where Caravaggio transformed the course of painting is also the place where Tamburro lives and develops his artistic practice, creating an ideal bridge between past and present.

The exhibition offers an immersive experience through more than forty works, complemented by a documentary by Giovanni Storaro dedicated to the artist, alongside a selection of historical documents exploring Caravaggio's life and patronage, enriching the dialogue between the 17th-century master and contemporary artistic sensibilities.

Marco Tamburro: Caravaggio Forever unfolds across six thematic sections, exploring the great themes of human existence ‒ from desire to faith, from memory to collective responsibility ‒ ultimately presenting Caravaggio as an enduring cultural icon whose work continues to resonate with the present day.

Born in Perugia in 1974, Marco Tamburro lives and works in Rome. After studying at the Art Institute of Perugia and the Academies of Fine Arts in Brera and Rome, he developed an artistic practice centred on the human condition and the relationship between the individual and the urban environment. His works have been exhibited in major Italian and international museums and institutions, including MAXXI, MACRO, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the Hermitage Museum, and the Venice Biennale.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
