The Neapolitan Mandolin Academy of Maestro Mauro Squillante this year offers us a fascinating journey through the melodies of the Neapolitan tradition and Christmas carols, enveloping us in the warm atmosphere of this period.
The orchestra that goes up on the stage of the Auditorium for the Christmas concert is made up of Masters Mauro Squillante, Luca Petrosino, Massimiliano Del Gaudio, Luigi Del Gaudio on mandolins, Adolfo Tronco on mandola, Leonardo Massa on mandoloncello, Lorenzo Marino on guitar and Matilde Squillante on the bass. The sung parts are instead entrusted to the voice of Valentina Assorto.
The Neapolitan Mandolin Academy boasts a long history. Born in 1929, it was revived in 1992 by some Neapolitan musicians aware of the need for a recovery of the mandolin as an instrument of cultured tradition. Since then the Academy, which has the master as its president and the cellist Leonardo Massa as artistic director, has been an important point of reference for fans and lovers of the Neapolitan mandolin, through the teaching activity of the Neapolitan Mandolin School held by Mauro Squillante.
His chamber ensembles and orchestra, the Napoli Mandolin Orchestra, perform successfully all over the world and collaborate with many artists.
