For nearly twenty years, Collectif XY has been exploring acrobatic disciplines, placing them at the heart of an artistic practice fully rooted in the performing arts of movement and playing with the conventions, rhythms, and forms of circus technique. Part of the Romaeuropa Festival program, the Collectif’s poetic and dizzying performance at the Teatro Olimpico explores time, fragility and the strength of community.
Based on the sharing of skills and ideas, and with a collaborative and non-hierarchical structure, since its inception, the Collectif has worked with large ensembles in order to multiply possibilities and expand its fields of research, exploring the concepts of the masses and the crowd, as well as the relationships between individuals and groups or social contexts.
In “Le Pas du Monde”, the twenty acrobats and performers on stage act like a single living organism and raise together ephemeral cathedrals made of bodies, momentum, and falls, bringing to life ever-changing landscapes: mountains being eroded, forests crossed by wind, waves breaking and recomposing in a continuous movement that makes the breath of the living visible. Different in age and physicality, the performers turn trust and interdependence into a poetic and human act before it is even a scenic one.
