An unmissable event is the one offered by the Auditorium Parco della Musica as part of the summer concerts: the Amazonia forest, with its sounds and evocative atmospheres, is at the centre of this unique event. On the podium the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia is directed by the Italian-Brazilian conductor Simone Menezes, one of the promises of her generation at her debut in Santa Cecilia.
The program includes Bachianas Brasileiras n. 4: Prelude - melodies and harmonies typical of the Brazilian tradition revisited through the language of classical music inspired by Bach - and the Floresta do Amazonas suite: both by the Carioca composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The evening also includes the Metamorphosis 1 taken from Aguas do Amazonas by contemporary American composer Philipp Glass, a large symphonic concert dedicated to the rivers of the Amazonia.
The multimedia concert is accompanied by the projection of the most significant photographic videos of the master Sebastião Salgado, whose Amazon exhibition, produced by MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts and curated by Lélia Wanick-Salgado, will be presented in Italian preview at the MAXXI in Rome starting in autumn 2021. For seven years Sebastião Salgado has photographed the Brazilian Amazonia in all its different aspects: the forest, the rivers and the mountains and the people who live there.
There are about 200 photographs accompanied by the original soundtrack by Jean-Michel Jarre composed using the sounds of the forest. In this way, the exhibition aims to give a voice to the indigenous communities who live in this corner of paradise increasingly threatened by deforestation.
