The Butterfly House returns with a new edition, from March 20 to June 13, 2027, in the green spaces of Appia Joy Park, at Via Annia Regilla 245: an immersive experience dedicated to nature and biodiversity, designed for adults, children, families, and schools, where visitors can closely follow the entire life cycle of butterflies.
The Butterfly House is a tropical greenhouse where butterflies from around the world fly freely among visitors. During the visit, you can observe their life cycle, metamorphosis, pupa, and emergence - when the butterfly emerges and prepares to spread its wings for the first time - up close, accompanied by guided tours.
The greenhouse also houses other insects and invertebrates, including millipedes, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, phasmids, and other surprising insects, allowing visitors to discover camouflage, defense strategies, cryptic techniques, and adaptations developed over the course of evolution. This is a way to shift perspective and explore, even starting with the smallest and least-known animals, biodiversity and the delicate ecological balances that govern ecosystems.
The Butterfly House is open every day, and the experience is enriched on weekends: every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday, at 12:00, 14:00, and 16:00, educational, fun, and creative activities are offered for children of all ages. These workshops are designed to encourage learning by doing, experimenting, and playing, turning curiosity into an opportunity for discovery.
The history of the Butterfly House in Rome has begun in 2017. Since then, the project has grown season after season, maintaining the same mission: to bring adults and children closer to nature through wonder, observation, and knowledge. Since 2017, the Butterfly House has collaborated with schools in Rome and the surrounding area, building over the years a network of institutions that have chosen the greenhouse as a live science laboratory, where metamorphosis, biodiversity, camouflage, and adaptation can be directly observed.
