Joan Fontcuberta - Cultura di polvere-Foto: sito ufficiale Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione

The exhibition of the Catalan photographer Joan Fontcuberta opens to the public at the Central Institute for Cataloging and Documentation, curated by Francesca Fabiani, promoted by the Central Institute for Cataloging and Documentation of the Ministry of Culture.

The exhibition presents 12 light boxes created by Joan Fontcuberta, one of the most interesting and innovative artists on the international photography scene, as part of the “ICCD Artists in Residence” project. Called to deal with the exceptional historical collections of the Institute - born at the end of the 19th century as a Photographic Department to document the cultural heritage with the aim of protection and cataloging -, Fontcuberta has chosen to work on some deteriorated photographic plates, which have been departure for a series of visual and linguistic experiments.

Joan Fontcuberta is a photographer, essayist and exhibition curator. He was the founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine "Photovision" and is the author of critical texts on photography, exploring and manipulating the boundaries between real and illusory, truth and fiction. Interpreter of contemporary photography, he has been awarded internationally and has exhibited, among others, at the MoMA in New York and the Science Museum in London.
