Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock

A world jazz icon, the composer and legendary pianist returns to the splendid Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica for the Rome Summer Fest.

Born in Chicago in 1940, the great artist was a child piano prodigy: at the age of eleven, he performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a Mozart piano concert.

Since the 1960s, Hancock has been part of every significant musical movement as a great seven-note pathfinder and a curious experimenter, starting with the epic Miles Davis quintet, which pioneered a revolutionary sound in the jazz scene. The brilliant Davis spoke about him in glowing terms, alongside myths like Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk.

In his long and extraordinary career, the eclectic artist with an unmistakable voice won an Oscar for Best Original Score for Round Midnight and 14 Grammy Awards. His innovative style - which combines electric jazz with funk and rock - keeps influencing the current musical sound, from jazz to electronics, from R&B to techno, from dance to hip-hop.

He chairs the Creative Jazz Chair of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. He was named Unesco Goodwill Ambassador and received the Kennedy Center's highest honor.
