The biggest names in world athletics will gather in Rome for the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, the fifth stage of the Wanda Diamond League, on the evening of June 4th at the Stadio Olimpico for the 46th edition of the event. It's an exceptional lineup that includes 43 career Olympic and World gold medalists and over 80 global medalists.
Among the main protagonists present, we remember silver, gold and Olympic champions, such as Leonardo Fabbri, Joe Kovacs, Tom Walsh, Zane Weir, Beatrice Chebet, Nadia Battocletti, Miltiadis Tentoglou, Mattia Furlani, Quincy Hall, Hamish Kerr, Valarie Allman and Thea LaFond.
The Golden Gala was born in 1980 thanks to the vision of Primo Nebiolo, then president of FIDAL, who realized that, in the year when many countries boycotted the Moscow Olympics, Rome could become the stage for spectacular challenges and give those who had missed out on the Games a chance to gain revenge. That night, Pietro Mennea and Sara Simeoni were there, but more importantly, 60,000 people packed the Olympic Stadium.
