The evening at the Vascello Theater allows you to immerse yourself in the choreographic universe of Lucinda Childs (New York, 1940), one of the most influential and innovative voices in American postmodern dance, known for her extraordinary ability to weave movement, space, and time into a visual and corporeal narrative that unites past and present.
The program opens with Katema, an exclusive video installation revisiting the original 1978 video. Thanks to a new editing process and the live performance of two dancers, the images transform into a dialogue oscillating between history and modernity, building a bridge between memory and innovation.
The evening also features two new choreographies by Lucinda Childs herself, inspired by the celebrated Études of contemporary composer Philip Glass. The hypnotic, layered structure of Glass's music provides the ideal platform for exploring the choreographer's favorite themes: repetition, minimalism, and the metamorphosis of movement in space. In this profound dialogue that intertwines dance and music, the elegance and intensity of the American choreographer's artistic research find new expression.
This will be followed by a screening of Calico Mingling, one of the artist's most iconic choreographies, composed in 1973. This historic video offers audiences an important retrospective of her highly personal, timeless language and the revolutionary vision that transformed the world of contemporary dance.
