On the weekend of 11 and 12 October, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (Italian Environment Fund), the Foundation will open 700 sites throughout Italy during the Autumn Days weekend. Some are reserved for FAI members and those who register for the event and include historic residences and palaces, churches, parks and gardens, industrial archaeology sites, military areas, institutional headquarters, art collections, theatres and villages, as well as iconic sites of contemporary architecture, workshops, private homes, unusual and curious properties, not to mention openings of great civic and educational value and a particular focus on environmental and water protection, sustainability and examples of adaptive reuse, which sees the restoration of disused buildings and spaces, transformed into new resources for the community, while maintaining their historical identity.
The places, often little known or normally inaccessible, are shown and described by the young people of the Italian Environment Fund, together with all the volunteers of the Foundation's Territorial Network.
