On October 16, World Food Day is celebrated in over 150 countries, an event promoted by the FAO to commemorate the anniversary of its foundation and to raise global awareness of the problem of world hunger, promoting concrete actions for a more sustainable food future.
The theme of the 2026 edition, "Innovate today to feed tomorrow", emphasizes how cutting-edge solutions, combined with traditional knowledge and inclusive approaches, support access to a diversified, healthy, safe, and nutritious diet, while safeguarding the planet for future generations. It is an invitation to look at food systems, highlighting innovations that can make food increasingly accessible, conscious, and resilient, while reducing waste.
This year's theme emphasizes how innovation can help build food systems capable of meeting the needs of a growing population while addressing environmental, economic, and social challenges.
The campaign moreover promotes global dialogue and encourages awareness to be the first step toward change.
