The yearly event dedicated to contemporary art promoted by AMACI - Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani, returns on Saturday, 4 October 2025.
Now in its 21st edition, this year's Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day) focuses on the theme of education as a complex and multifaceted process, among instruction, research, shared experiences, and knowledge.
Organised with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the event highlights the cultural network that promotes contemporary art in Italy and abroad, bringing it to the attention of an ever-wider audience.
The 26 museums associated with AMACI, as well as over a thousand Italian public and private realities, open their doors to the public with a rich program of exhibitions, events, guided tours, workshops, and initiatives in person and online.
The Atelier dell'Errore collective, consisting of twelve young neurodivergent artists, created the guiding image, represented by Unknown Pleasures – The Shelter (2025), a work that poetically reinterprets the large sail Ade Vela Rapido, made with 50 rescue blankets for the boat that belonged to Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Until 10 October 2025, the Giornata del Contemporaneo – Italian Contemporary Art project is also back. The event, organised in synergy with the diplomatic-consular network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, embassies, consulates, and Italian cultural institutes, promotes and highlights Italian contemporary art around the world.
Giornata del Contemporaneo is sponsored by the European Commission Representation in Italy, UPI – Unione Province d'Italia, and ICOM Italia. The Giornata del Contemporaneo also has a partnership with Alfasigma and technical sponsorship from Artshell.
