The Orchestra and Chorus of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia are the protagonists, together with the conductor and pianist Wayne Marshall, in an evening completely dedicated to George Gershwin.
On program, the performance of the jazz-symphonic masterpiece Rhapsody in Blue in the original version for jazz band. Performed for the first time in 1924, the composition combines five different melodies and alternates the classical language with that of jazz.
The evening includes other masterpieces by the great American composer, such as A Concert of Songs and Broadway Overtures & Songs and the Folk American Opera Porgy and Bess, one of the few modern examples of melodrama that contains some of Gershwin's most famous arias, first of all Summertime.
On stage, together with Wayne Marshall, the soprano Jeanine De Bique and the baritone Simon Shibambu.
