
MAXXI's summer lights up with a rich evening program of music, cinema, poetry, author meetings, books, and readings on the stage of the museum square starting from the summer solstice on 21 June until the end of July, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
To enliven the warm summer evenings of the National Museum of 21st Century Arts, personalities of entertainment and culture of the caliber of Vittorio Sgarbi with Morgan, Walter Sabatini, Cristina Comencini with Teresa Ciabatti and Lunetta Savino, Cinzia Tedesco, Peppe Servillo and Javier Girotto Trio, Neri Marcorè, Chiara Francini, Luigi Lo Cascio and many others.
It all starts on Wednesday, 21 June, at 9 pm to celebrate the Festa della Musica together with two exceptional protagonists: Morgan and Vittorio Sgarbi, a face-to-face on their respective tastes and passions, an open confrontation in which words and notes played on the piano alternate, to tell the origin of those songs, created by famous or forgotten artists, who have helped write the history of Italian and international music.
Thursday, 22 June, at 9 pm, The Song of Songs, one of the Bible most original and unexpected texts, becomes an opportunity to talk about love, poetry, and brotherhood.
On Tuesday, 4 July, at 7 pm, in the MAXXI Auditorium, Walter Sabatini talks about his book Il mio calcio furioso e solitario, the story of a long career in the Italian football. At 9 pm, in the museum square, the director and writer Cristina Comencini presents her latest book Flashback, accompanied by readings by Lunetta Savino.
On Tuesday, 18 July, actress Chiara Francini presents her latest work as a writer, Forte e Chiara, an autobiography full of confessions and reflections on the female reality.
Tuesday, 25 July, actor and director Luigi Lo Cascio talks about his Storielle per granchi e per scorpioni, a collection of stories in which the animal, mineral, vegetable, and "spectral" kingdom mixes with the human one, giving voice to anthropomorphic protagonists and otherwise, including cats, bacteria, ghosts, and soldiers who fell in battle: a philosophical, playful, and unusual reading of our daily lives, our fears, and our obsessions.
Thursday, 6 July, Verdi and Puccini are the protagonists of an evening of opera in jazz. Wednesday, 12 July, the MAXXI square comes alive with a perfect musical interlocking and three artistic personalities from different musical cultures in the concert Servillo Girotto Mangalavite: L'anno che verrà. Wednesday, 19 July, Tango Nuevo Revisited is an evening between tango and jazz, with the Argentine saxophonist Javier Girotto, a tribute to the album Tango Nuevo recorded by Astor Piazzolla and jazz player Gerry Mulligan in 1974.
Estate al MAXXI is also auteur cinema with Metropolis by Fritz Lang (5 July), a masterpiece of expressionist cinema and forerunner of science fiction cinema of 1927, with Zootropolis (13 July), an animated film produced by Walt Disney and winner of the Oscar and Golden Globe Award in 2017, and with Blade Runner (20 July), Ridley Scott's timeless masterpiece in its definitive version, curated by the director with total artistic freedom.
Summer at MAXXI ends on Thursday, 27 July, with Manhattan - screened in the original language - by the brilliant American director Woody Allen.
