As part of the Concert Season at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Maestro Daniel Harding will perform the Second Symphony “Resurrection”, the second appointment in the complete Symphonies of Gustav Mahler, and the first ever performance of the piece Il carro del tempo (The chariot of time) by the young composer Enrico Scaccaglia, winner of the Luciano Berio Composition Competition at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia.
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C minor for soloists, chorus and orchestra, also known as Auferstehung ("Resurrection"), was written in the same period as the First Symphony, between 1888 and 1894; the first performance took place in 1895. The Second Symphony can be counted among those that had the greatest success and popularity during the composer's lifetime. The Symphony is the first of the three Wunderhorn Symphonien, in which texts from the collection of medieval German songs entitled Des Knaben Wunderhorn are set to music. This monumental work addresses the composer's personal meditation on the cycle of life and the meaning of human existence in its entirety.
