Piazza del Quirinale is the setting of the suggestive concert conceived and composed by Maestro Nicola Piovani, promoted by the Constitutional Court and organized in collaboration with Rai and the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
The opera is a Cantata for reciting voice, solos and choir. Its text, written by Piovani with Paola Ponti, is inspired by Aeschylus' Eumenides, the Italian Constitution and the preparatory work of the Constituent Assembly: the principles of civilization of law reaffirmed in post-war Italy, which became the heart of the Italian Constitution.
Il sangue e la parola (The Blood and the Word), in the presence of the President of the Republic, the highest offices of the State and exponents of civil society, is performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, with the sopranos Maria Agresta and Maria Rita Combattelli and Andrea Pennacchi as reciting voice, and is accompanied by the performance of the symphonic suites La notte di San Lorenzo and La vita è bella.
The 18th-century Palazzo della Consulta and the imposing Palazzo del Quirinale, respectively the seats of the Constitutional Court and the President of the Republic, the two highest Italian guarantee institutions, overlook the square making it the ideal symbolic place for the event.
