Ten years after his debut on the European scene, Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos continues his journey at the Romaeuropa Festival – which has followed his growth year after year – presenting the national premiere of his latest creation at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. In this intimate and personal piece, he draws inspiration from the sound memories of his childhood, collective experiences shared by many Greeks that are linked to the fate of their country.
Born in Nemea, Greece, in 1976, Christos Papadopoulos studied at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam and at the Drama School of Greece’s National Theater, as well Political Science at Panteion University in Athens. His projects have been highly acclaimed internationally, thanks in part to his multifaceted talent, which has allowed him to work as a dancer, choreographer, theatre production collaborator and movement designer.
In My Fierce Ignorant Step, he explores the relationship between word and body. The dancers’ bodies become voices, their breath transforms into sound and guides movements, like a dance that grows without end. The work also draws from the influence of the meta-symphonic masterpiece Axion Esti by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, investigating the connection between sound, speech and movement, and seeking to turn this connection into a simple, transparent, and shared experience.
