Chiesa di San Sebastiano al Palatino

At the end of C. IX, a small church called S.Maria in Palladio was built near the place where S. Sebastiano became a martyr, and it was then annexed to a convent. In the early C. XIV the entire complexwas abandoned and, upon becoming ruins, it became property of the Capranica family, who turned it into a country estate. In 1630 the estate was bought by TaddeoBarberini, nephew to Pope Urbano VIII, who had it restored appointing thechurch to San Sebastiano. In 1920 the complex underwent the management of theItalian state, which had it restored. The façade, simple and elegant, is decoratedwith the Barberinian bees and ends with a triangular tympanum. Theinterior has a single nave with a little apse decorated with frescoes from C.X.On the high altar one finds the painting with the “Martirio di San Sebastiano”,by Andrea Cammassei da Bevagna. (1633).
