As part of “Accelerazione || Decelerazione”, the 2020 edition of the ArteScienza festival, the Casino Nobile of Villa Torlonia hosts a particular adaptive and interactive musical installation that enhances even more the imposing and sumptuous monumentality of the building and the natural beauty of the place.
The sound is diffused by six Planophones®, vibrating surfaces in harmonic wood, located in the balconies of the Salone. Designed in 1998 by Michelangelo Lupone, co-founder and artistic director of the Centro Ricerche Musicali - CRM in Rome, the Planofoni® diffuse the sound according to specifications that depend on the structure of the material, the geometry of the design, the orientations and curvatures of the surfaces, and on the plastic volumes occupied. The music uses the light vibration of wood to draw sound trajectories along flat surfaces and obtain resonances that blend with the surrounding environment.
The installation interacts with the visitors who, with their presence and movements, modulate the music composed for the occasion by Laura Bianchini. The resulting musical interweaving builds a delicate, non-invasive counterpoint that dialogues between the two lodges.
