The Merry Widow

La vedova allegra al Circo Massimo

“Tace il labbro
T'amo dice il violin
Le sue note dicon tutte m'hai d'amar”
(Act III, Duet)

The overwhelming liveliness of "The Merry Widow", one of the most famous operettas in the world, is back to the unusual and suggestive setting of the Circus Maximus, in the Summer program of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

Franz Lehár's three-acts masterpiece, with the original title "Die lustige Witwe", is based on a libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein, from the comedy "L'Attaché d'ambassade" by Henri Meilhac. It is a fusion of loving skirmishes and jealousies, money, power and intrigues, sparkling music and refined waltz that drags the audience into the brilliant Paris of the early 20th century.

The opera is performed in a concert form and conducted by Stefano Montanari. Nadja Mchantaf and Markus Werba sing in the roles of Anna Glawari and Danilo Danilowitsch. Among the performers, Andrea Concetti (Mirko Zeta), Hasmik Torosyan (Valencienne), Juan Francisco Gatell (Camille de Rossillion), Simon Schnorr (Vicomte Cascada), Marcello Nardis (Raoul de St. Brioche), Roberto Maietta (Kromow), Andrii Ganchuk (Prischitsch), Sara Rocchi (Prascowia), Timofei Baranov (Bodganowitsch). The cast is completed by the talents of the current edition of "Fabbrica" - Young Artist Program, Marianna Mappa (Sylviane), Angela Schisano (Olga). The choir is directed by Roberto Gabbiani.
