60/20: Villa Adriana tra Cinema e UNESCO

Villa Adriana

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the inclusion of Villa Adriana in the World Heritage List (1999-2019), and the 60th anniversary of the first film shot in the emperor's villa, the Villa Adriana Institute and Villa d'Este -Villae proposes the free exhibition 60/20: Villa Adriana between Cinema and UNESCO.

The Villa is told through the cinema that for 60 years has mediated its image and meanings in an often unconventional but extraordinarily pervasive way. It has helped to elevate the site to a real object of a universally shared imagination. The recognition of Villa Adriana as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (site no. 907) is based on the uniqueness of the residential complex and the universality of its message.

The exhibition highlights how around the 1960s, cinema has designated Villa Adriana as a set of excellence, struggling with a new generation of public, new themes, and places. The site has recently been rediscovered and restored not only to repair the damage of the Second World War but also to significantly improve its cultural offer.

The multimedia exhibition, with panels in Italian and English and multimedia contents in Chinese, is set up in the Reception Center of Villa Adriana and collects a selection of visual suggestions of Italian and foreign films in the original language to underline the internationality of the productions.
