Basilique de Saint-Pierre


The parish church has a central plan and is square in shape, covering an area of 900 square metres, and the main façade overlooks a tree-lined square with benches.
The parish is located on the slopes of Monte Mario, at the entrance to the Aurelia valley, which climbs up through the Pineto Park to the Pineta Sacchetti, towards the Gemelli polyclinic.
The history of the church, now a parish dedicated to St Joseph of Cupertino, has always been linked to the neighbouring parish of St Mark the Evangelist in Agro Laurentino.
It was built in the late 1980s to a design by architect Eugenio Abruzzini. Opened to the public in 1991, it was solemnly consecrated by Pope John Paul II during his visit on 21 February 1993.
