Ovid on stage at the Borghese Gallery: three evenings of performances and special openings

The Borghese Gallery extends the narrative of the exhibition Metamorfosi. Ovidio e le arti (Metamorphoses. Ovid and the Arts) beyond the confines of the exhibition halls and brings Ovid's poetry to the splendour of the Villa Borghese gardens. For three evenings, at 8:00 PM and 9:15 PM, the garden behind the Palazzina will be transformed into a large open-air theater to host The Metamorphoses, a site-specific immersive performance conceived and directed by Giuliano Peparini, an internationally renowned director and artistic director, and produced and staged by the INDA – National Institute of Ancient Drama.

During these three evenings, the Borghese Gallery is exceptionally open to the public, offering the opportunity to visit the museum in the evenings until 10:00 PM with a combined ticket for the show and access to the collections. This is a special opportunity to experience the museum in a new dimension and discover the profound connection between the works in the collection, the exhibition dedicated to Ovid, and the performance that renews its narrative through contemporary language.

The initiative represents one of the highlights of the program of activities that accompanied the Ovid exhibition: meetings, insights, performances, mediation sessions, and projects aimed at a diverse audience contributed to building a comprehensive cultural experience, capable of approaching Ovid's work through different perspectives and languages.

It is exactly in the Borghese Gallery that the visionary power of the Metamorphoses finds one of its highest artistic expressions: the stories narrated by the Latin poet come to life in the sculptures and masterpieces of the collection, where the theme of transformation has always been central to some of the museum's most celebrated works.
