Born in 2016, OperaCamion is the travelling project of the Teatro dell’Opera - Rome Opera House (with the support of Roma Capitale, the Department of Culture, the Department of Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion, and the Lazio Region). The project brings opera to the squares, courtyards and spaces of the city and the metropolitan area thanks to a lorry that opens like a curtain and transforms into a stage complete with an orchestra, singers, lighting and costumes.
The 2026 edition’s tour will conclude in September with a further six evenings in the districts not visited by the May and June tour (Municipalities 2, 7, 9, 11 and 15), offering the public a free performance of Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”, one of the most beloved masterpieces of the operatic repertoire. The production, directed by Manu Lalli, draws inspiration from traditional forms of popular entertainment, such as the circus and the commedia dell’arte: the mobile stage is thus filled with illusionists, acrobats, animal trainers and clowns who interact with the crowd in the square, restoring the opera to its most popular and participatory form.
The stars of the show are Irene Zas Martinez* (Rosina), Pierpaolo Martella (Don Bartolo), Diego Savini (Figaro), Dayu Xu* (Don Basilio) and Francesco Tuppo (Count Almaviva), supported by Donata Franceschino, Letizia Giannoccaro, Stefano Dattrino, Giacomo Peddis and Alessio Dantignana. Irene Zas Martinez and Dayu Xu are part of the “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program of the Rome Opera House. The musical adaptation is by Tommaso Chieco and Marco Giustini, with set design by Daniele Leone and choreography of the mime sequences by Chiara Casalbuoni. The Opera House Orchestra is conducted by Alessandro Poleggi.
All performances begin at 8.00 pm and last approximately 90 minutes. Admission is free, subject to availability.
