As part of the WTE (World Tourism Event) 2026, M & C Marketing Consulting, the organizer of the World Tourism Event, in collaboration with the Association of Italian World Heritage Sites, the Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture, and the Mario Bagnara family, is announcing the second edition of the “Mario Bagnara” Award for Sustainable Tourism.
The Award has two main purposes: from one side in fact, it commemorates the figure of Mario Bagnara, a professor, administrator of the Municipality of Vicenza, and a key figure in the city's cultural landscape, having been named one of the founders of the Italian World Heritage Association, exactly one year after his passing; From the other side, it aims to serve as a tool for promoting a culture of sustainability and responsibility in tourism, with particular emphasis on tangible and intangible cultural assets of the world's heritage.
The initiative's primary objective is to highlight individuals, businesses, and organizations in Italy and around the world who contribute to promoting a culture of travel that respects the environment, biodiversity, culture, and local populations, as well as protecting UNESCO heritage in the face of modern challenges.
The Award is divided into three categories: most innovative offering, best initiative to raise awareness of UNESCO values, and best sustainable use of technologies for the protection and enhancement of heritage.
To be eligible for the 2026 Mario Bagnara Award for Sustainable Tourism, institutions, companies, associations, and organizations must demonstrate sustainable management of travel and related activities, with particular reference to tangible and intangible world heritage assets, meeting a series of requirements listed in the Award application form and in the Rules.
