Immersive installations and digital artwork, virtual reality experiences, video art, live audiovisual performances and talks. Videocittà, the festival promoting the finest artistic and digital creativity, conceived by Francesco Rutelli (with artistic direction by Anna Lea Antolini, creative direction by Michele Lotti and the support of Eni, the event’s main partner), returns for its ninth edition at the Rome’s Gazometro, Europe’s largest industrial heritage site.
The 2026 edition, inaugurated by the immersive installation “In Lympha” at Opificio 41, focuses on water as its central theme, exploring it through different forms and languages to invite the public to reflect on its ecological, political and cultural value as a living, ever-changing and universal element. A large site-specific installation characterises every edition of the festival: conceived Visioni Parallele and Niulab, UNDA is a composition of light and lasers, with a flow of light waves traversing the vast Gazometro, evoking the rhythm of the sea.
The program includes the immersive installations “Nature’s Computility” by Chinese artist Cao Yuxi and “Water: always the same, always different” by Giuseppe La Spada, Francesca Heart and Amanda Lana, talks and debates, virtual reality experiences by Diversion and Rai Cinema, and the exhibition “Riflessi”, a series of installations and site-specific works spread across various venues. The audio-visual music section transforms water into a sonic and visual experience, with a line-up featuring some of the most influential names on the electronic music scene, such as Mace, Populous, Voices From The Lake and the German musician and producer Apparat, whose most famous track, “Black Water”, returns in a new version as part of “In Lympha”. The video art section is also expanding: among the artists taking part is Adrian Paci, with the works “Turn on”, “Di queste luci si servirà la notte” and “The Column”. The festival will also host the IGPDecaux Graphic Award ceremony, unveiling the three winning works that reinterpret Rome, the “Eternal City”, through the new frontiers of artificial intelligence.
