The Auditorium Parco della Musica hosts the "mythological concert" Ulysses's Travels: written and directed by Nicola Piovani, it is a musical tale, for instruments harmonizing with recorded voices. The story's themes are the emotions evoked in Piovani by reading and imagining some of Ulysses's travels, a quintessential Homeric character, a mythical figure whose fascination and wonder remain unsurpassed today.
The story is accompanied by instrumental music, which highlights the beauty of the words and the narrative, recreating the enchantment of the Odyssey's events, which have always seduced and captivated the listener. The instrumentation includes piano, double bass, saxophone, cello, percussion, electronic keyboard and recorded voices reciting verses by poets such as James Joyce, Konstantinos Cavafy, Homer, Umberto Saba, Torquato Tasso, voices inside the score that have a fundamentally sonic role.
Written and directed by Nicola Piovani; orchestra soloists: Marina Cesari sax / clarinet; Sergio Colicchio keyboard / accordion; Pasquale Filastò cello / mandocello; Marco Loddo double bass; Vittorino Naso drums / percussion; Nicola Piovani piano.
